Walk the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

The Lost City of the Incas

The Inca Trail is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that culminates in the enchanting and mysterious Lost City of the Incas: Machu Picchu. It’s a common contender on most bucket lists and it’s easy to see why.

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is a mixture of beautiful natural scenery, lush cloud forests, sub-tropical jungle and Inca ruins.

This is a must for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors as you will get to see all of these incredible experiences high up in the Peruvian Andes.

Footsteps of the Inca

You will get to walk in the footsteps of the Incas and visit the amazing Machu Picchu…

While it is physically demanding, the 25 mile (40 km) hike is doable for most, although it would be well worth putting in some extra training miles before you go just to be on the safe side.

You wouldn’t want to go all that way and not be able to take in the views due to trying to catch your breath all the time!

With ancient Tambo ruins, glaciers, beautiful wildlife and taking in the crisp mountain air you will not only feel great, but get to see some wonderful sights along the way.

This hike should not be taken light heartedly, some parts are steep, the biggest reaching a height of 4,200m (13,776 ft)! The end has been named the “Sun Gate”, where mist-shrouded views of Machu Picchu make the trip all worth while, pretty much the main reason for the trip.

You may want to mix it up and consider doing a bike and hike tour, maybe look at taking on some white water rafting or have a go on a Canopy zip-line. You can also immerses yourself in the Andean jungle or trek along the railway to Aquas Calientes.
