Croatia is so often not considered as a beach holiday destination, however it offers some stunning beaches and glorious locations. The island resort of Hvar offers Palmizana beach which is both fashionable, but quirky. Safe for children the whole area is geared towards the family holiday and well worth a look.
Elba Island, Italy
Located six miles from the coast of Tuscany, Elba island is a beautiful escape for those seeking a more peaceful retreat. Steeped in history you can expect to see a lot of Napoleonic memorabilia, fishing boats and gorgeous architecture, as well as the restful beaches.
Contrary to popular belief there is more on offer in Cannes than the famed Film Festival. You would do well to avoid travelling there whilst it is on, but the rest of the year this is a glorious escape destination within easy reach of those in the UK. Praia da Falesia, Central Algarve
Dubbed one of the Algarve’s best beach, Praia da Falesia is nestled at the bottom of imposing sandstone cliffs. This is a really family friendly resort making it the perfect destination for those with children, as there are many activities on offer.
Made even more famous by the ‘Only Way is Essex’ crowd, ‘Marbs’ is a popular busy resort that would suit those more in need of bustle and noise with their summer sun. However, if you venture a little further off the beaten track you can find some quieter spots.
Porto de Mós, Western Algarve
If you are looking for a beach with stunning scenery then Porto de Mos could be just the hidden gem you have been after. The large stretches of sand are dwarfed by the magnificent cliffs famed for their technicolour qualities. Stay at the elegant Vivenda Miranda which stands impressively on the cliff for a true pampering and luxury experience.
Located on the Basque coast, Biarritz could be the place to head if you are an extreme sports fan. Playing host to the World Surf Championships it is little wonder it is now widely hailed as Europe’s surf capital. There are several glorious beaches to choose from in the town, but if you are a surfer at heart you will want to head to La Cote des Basques to catch the best waves.
A land that time forgot, Koufonisia is stuck in a time warp that has been likened to the sixties, however this quaint little town is worth a look. There is an active fishing community amongst the locals so fishing boats are a common site. The beach of Pori stretches out glorious white sand edging the crystal blue sea.
Iguana Beach, Crete
A popular destination for those seeking the sun, Iguana beach boasts golden sand and glorious clear waters. It is a just a few kilometres from the town of Chania which gives appeal to both tourists and locals. Scattered with sun beds there is something for everyone, and the Blue Flag water holds a very gentle slop away making it safe for children to play.
